Farmers, young farmers and students in Nidderdale are being offered the chance to attend one of the UK’s leading regenerative agriculture events, thanks to support from the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme.

Nidderdale National Landscape is providing 12 fully funded places at Groundswell 2026, which takes place on 1 and 2 July at Lannock Farm near Hitchin.

The offer is aimed at Nidderdale-based farmers, young farmers and students who may not otherwise be able to attend because of the cost of tickets, travel, camping, or the reality of taking time away from a working farm.

Groundswell is widely regarded as one of the most inspiring and practical events in the farming calendar. Across two days, it brings together farmers, land managers, advisers and industry experts for in-field demonstrations, workshops, talks and peer-to-peer learning.

The funded places are designed to help local farmers access new ideas, practical advice and wider networks that could support the future of their farms and landscapes.

Matt Trevelyan, from Nidderdale National Landscape, said:

“FiPL is about supporting farmers and land managers in practical ways, and sometimes that means helping people access the ideas, networks and confidence that can lead to change back on the farm.

“Groundswell is one of the most positive and inspiring events in the farming calendar, but we know it is not always easy for farmers to take time away from the farm, especially when cost and travel are involved. These funded places are about opening the door to new ideas, new skills and a wider community of people who care about the future of farming.”

The funding covers six farmer places and six young farmer or student places. It also includes camping and support for travel and food costs of up to £100 per person, which will be reimbursed after the event.

The total value of a fully supported place is more than £260.

Nidderdale National Landscape will host short meetups at the start and end of each day, helping attendees plan which sessions are most relevant to them, share what they are learning and build connections that can continue after the event.

Matt added:

“This is not just about attending an event. It is about helping Nidderdale farmers connect with others, explore what might work for their own businesses and landscapes, and bring useful ideas back into the dale.

“Isolation is one of the real pressures on farming communities. This is one practical way of addressing it.”

Places are open to farmers, young farmers and students based in Nidderdale. The opportunity is restricted to those aged 18 and over, unless a young person is accompanied by a responsible family member.

Places are limited and expected to fill quickly.
