You are invited to attend a presentation about the call of the curlew, led by composer, pianist, and ornithologist, Peter Cowdrey.

With the help of a trombone, Peter will describe the various calls of the curlew – and even demonstrate how curlews use harmonic series in their song.

This talk was a huge hit at the recent European Curlew Fieldworkers Conference in Lancaster.

Peter is the founder of Planet Birdsong, and its musical arm The Conference of Birds.

As a small boy he loved listening to the dawn chorus but was deeply frustrated at birdsong’s inaccessibility – too fast, too high, and resolutely resistant to being shoehorned into what was generally defined as music.

Peter is excited that advances in technology have made it possible to crack the hidden codes of birdsong and seeks to share them with the rest of the world.

The Pennine Hills Curlew Choir will support Peter’s fascinating presentation.

The event will also show footage from the Curlew’s Call Studio filmed by Peter Murray Threipland. The winner of the Curlew Call competition will also be announced.
