Otley

Otley is a small historic market town on the southern edge of the National Landscape.

A traditional market town with a vibrant community, Otley has a wide range of shops and restaurants as well as the Courthouse, an arts and resource centre in a redundant 19th century magistrates court. The centre hosts a variety of events and exhibitions with a great cafe.

The town has an interesting heritage and is known for its former manufacture of printing presses and as the birthplace of Thomas Chippendale, the famous 18th century cabinet maker.

Otley hosts the country’s oldest agricultural show each year on the Saturday before the spring bank holiday weekend in May. There is also a thriving outdoor market held three times a week and a monthly farmers market.

Otley was one of the first nationally accredited ‘Walkers are Welcome’ towns and has a very popular walking festival each year. There are some fantastic opportunities for outdoor recreation including riverside trails and Otley Chevin.
