The Swinton Estate is a private estate owned by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s, and the ancestral seat of the Earl of Swinton, occupying 20,000 acres of the most commanding of landscapes on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
The hotel sits within 200 acres of historic parkland and gardens which can be visited by the public. The landscape, inspired by the renowned Capability Brown, was developed by the Danby family in the 1760s. The estate features a deer park, five lakes, and beautifully designed gardens and follies. The gardens offer year-round beauty, with snowdrops, daffodils, and bluebells in winter and spring, and vibrant rhododendrons and blossoms in the summer.
There is a network of walking routes across the estate which can be accessed with a day pass. The Estate also runs a variety of outdoor activities such as archery, fishing and raft building.
