Nidderdale National Landscape is already a special place for nature, home to a wide range of habitats and species. Nevertheless, we recognise that – as is the case across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK – nature is, in general, declining and significant effort will be required to reverse this trend and help nature to recover.

Many species will benefit from work to improve habitat condition and connectivity. Four species have been selected for targeted action: Black Grouse, Adder, Wading Birds and Waxcap.

Our work focuses on:

• Implementing the Nature Recovery Plan.
• Adder Watch a citizen science research programme mapping adder populations across the national landscape.
• Curlew recovery work monitoring curlew breeding success and working with all land managers to find practical solutions for curlew conservation.
• Providing farm and land management advice to support the work of farmers and land managers.
• Increasing woodland cover and trees outside woods through our tree and woodland work.
