The highest reservoir in the Washburn Valley

Thruscross Reservoir, is the northernmost of four reservoirs in the Washburn Valley. Managed by Yorkshire Water, Thruscross is is a fantastic destination for walking, fishing, and enjoying nature.

Completed in 1966, it was built to provide water to the surrounding areas. The reservoir is known for its scenic beauty, offers stunning views of the valley and surrounding moorland. It also has historical significance, as its construction flooded the village of West End, remnants of which can still be seen during droughts.

There are a number of trails around the reservoir and the reservoir is popular for fishing at the Washburn Valley Fishery.

You can access the car park from Reservoir Road, Thruscross, Harrogate HG3 4BB. Please note there is a 2.1m height barrier.
Dog Walking Dog Walking
Please be a responsible dog owner. Keep your dog on a lead, especially around livestock and on the moor, where there are ground nesting birds. From March to July, use a short lead. Remember to clean up after your dog.

Paths are made from a combination of tarmac and crushed stone, some sections do have varying amounts of adverse camber. Paths are undulating throughout.
