Impressive remains of a lime kiln

Toft Gate Lime Kiln, located near Pateley Bridge, is a historic site dating back the 1860s. It can be explored via a short trail with a series of information boards. Access is via a small car park on the outskirts of Greenhow village.

This lime kiln was used to produce quicklime, an essential material for building and agriculture. The kiln’s structure, built from local stone, showcases the industrial heritage of the area. Today, it stands as a fascinating relic, offering visitors a glimpse into the past. The surrounding landscape, with its stunning views of Nidderdale National Landscape, adds to the charm of the site. Wildlife has moved back in and you can see wonderful displays of wild flowers and listen to sky larks and meadow pipits.
